dc.description.abstractThe success of the restoration is influenced by the polishing procedure at the final stage of the restoration, resulting in a smooth surface. A potential abrasive material for polishing paste is blood clam shells. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a paste base formulation between CMC-Na and carbomer on polishing paste from blood clam shell powder on the surface roughness of nanohybrid composite resin restorations. The cleaned blood clam shells were pulverized using a ceramic mortar, sieved using a 400 mesh sieve, and pulverized again using a ball-mill machine. Samples of 24 maxillary premolars were treated with Class V and restored with nanohybrid composite resin. The samples were divided into 4 groups: polishing with blood clam shell paste CMC-Na paste base formulation, carbomer paste base, commercial paste, and no paste. Surface roughness testing was carried out using a profilometer. The results of the One Way ANOVA test showed that there was an effect of polishing paste formulation on the surface roughness of nanohybrid composite resin (p<0.05). Then the results of the LSD Post Hoc Test showed that there was a significant difference in influence between the paste group from blood clam shells and commercial pastes with carbomer paste base formulations showing lower surface roughness values than CMC-Na paste base formulations. In conclusion, the formulation of polishing paste base from blood clam shells formulated with carbomer and CMC-Na affects the surface roughness of the restoration.en_US
