Pulp capping aims to treat reversible pulp injuries so that pulp vitality is maintained and induces the formation of new protective hard tissue. Calcium phosphate is an alternative material that has good biocompatibility and low toxicity and can be extracted from natural sources simply and economically, such as fish bones. This study aims as preliminary research, to find out whether pora-pora fish bones have potential as an alternative pulp capping material. This research was a pre-experimental method with a one-shot case study design. The research sample was calcium phosphate which was extracted from pora-pora fish bones using the alkaline hydrolysis method. The extraction results were then examined for calcium, magnesium and zinc content using an atomic absorption spectrophotometer and the functional groups identified using fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The results of this study showed that the sample contained 1233.95 mg/100 grams of Ca; 432.83 mg/100 grams of Mg; and 58.58 mg/100 grams of Zn, and shows that the functional groups of calcium phosphate compounds, namely hydroxyl (OH-), carbonate (CO32-) and phosphate (PO43-) were obtained from the extraction results. It was included in this study that pora-pora fish bone contain calcium, magnesium and zinc which play a role in the mineralization process and formation of reparative dentin and calcium phosphate compound are formed so that pora-pora fish bone has the potential to become an alternative pulp capping material.en_US
