Electrical energy is a form of energy that is very important in human life today. To
meet the increasingly rapid demand for electrical energy, the electrical energy distribution
system must be carefully planned. The distribution system is the part of the electric power
system that is closest to the load. This system consists of medium voltage (20 kV) and low
voltage (220/380 V) networks. Losses is the power lost along the path of electric power
distribution, while voltage drop is the condition of the voltage at the end of the receiving point
which is lower than the sending end. To overcome these problems, the installation of capacitor
banks and static var compensators is carried out with the optimal capacitor placement (ocp)
method using ETAP software. In this study, the svc rating value was deliberately equalized
with the capacitor bank rating value so that their performance was compared to each other. The
results showed that the capacitor bank was able to increase the voltage to 94% and reduce the
losses by 44,4 kW while the SVC was able to increase the voltage to 91% and reduce the losses
by 40.7 kW. Capacitor investment costs are also cheaper with a difference of Rp. 245.925.000
