The Relationship Between Dark Triad Personality and Self-Control in Juvenile Inmates with Sexual Misconduct Cases at LPKA I Medan
Abstract
Sexual misconduct cases by minors are a phenomenon that dominates juvenile criminal cases in Indonesia. One of the factors in children that causes sexual misconduct to occur is the dark triad personality and self-control. Dark triad personality is the dark side of an individual's personality which consists of machiavellianism, narcissism, and psychopathy. Self-control is an individual's ability to control thoughts, behavior and decision making according to the situation. This research aims to find out whether there is a relationship between the dark triad personality and self-control in juvenile inmates with sexual misconduct cases at LPKA I Medan. This research uses quantitative methods with a correlational research design. Participants in this research were 69 juvenile inmates with sexual misconduct cases using a total sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using the Short Dark Triad (SD3) scale designed by Jones & Paulhus (2014) and the Self-Control Scale constructed by researchers from Averill's (1973) self-control theory. The data obtained was processed using the Pearson product moment correlation test with JASP software version 0.18.3. The results of this study show that only machiavellianism traits have a significant relationship with self-control (p = 0.04 < 0.05), while narcissism and psychopathy traits do not correlate significantly with self-control.
