dc.description.abstract | This research discusses Okinawan people's perspetives regarding shisa. Shisa has shapes and functions that are perpectived to have an impact on the lives of Okinawan people, such as protecting them from terrible things and bringing good luck. The aim of this research is to describe the shape and function of shisa in the beliefs of the Okinawan people. The concepts used are folk belief initiated by Hori Ichiro, concepts of meaning initiated by Kridalaksana, and concepts of functions initiated by Wilkinson. The research method used is the literature study method and semi-structured interviews. The results of this research found two functions of shisa, namely spiritual function and economic function. The spiritual function of shisa is as a protective deity and is considered to bring happiness and ward off terrible things. Meanwhile, its economic function is to increase tourist attraction. The meaning of shisa in terms of location does not really have an impression or meaning. Okinawan people consider the shisa in Okinawa to be merely "a place where shisa are placed." In terms of color, it also does not have a significant impression, except for red or brown because it is related to Shinto and Buddhist beliefs which consider the colors red and brown to bring good luck. An open mouth is marked as "Male Shisa" which rejects evil or bad things, while a closed mouth is marked as "Female Shisa" which brings goodness. | en_US |
