Development of A Portable Air Quality Measurement Module Using ESP8266-Based IoT (Internet of Things)
Abstract
Background: Air pollution is not only found outdoors. When we are indoors, it does not mean we are free from air pollution. Because indoors there are various factors that can cause air pollution. Objective: To overcome this, a tool is made to detect indoor air pollution.
Method: In this study using 4 (four) main components for the design of the tool in the form of MCU 8266 Node, MQ 135 Sensor, LED and LCD I2C, all these components are assembled and programmed so that they can detect air pollution in a closed or air-conditioned room. When pollution is detected by the MQ 135 sensor, the LED will light up, then sent and displayed in the Telegram.
Results: From the test results above, it can be concluded that the tool made works well as expected where the sensor works well and can read the data correctly, all components turn on after being given a voltage of 5 volts and work well, this can be proven by testing with gas and smoke.
Conclusion: The tool made can work well as expected. When the MQ-135 Sensor detects gas / smoke, the ESP8266 will process and will appear on the 16x2 LCD screen, and can monitor air quality remotely using a smartphone where the sensor reading value will appear on the smartphone screen and will notify a danger sign if the sensor detects gas / smoke.
