Design of Rice Straw Chopper for Compost Raw Material
Abstract
Rice straw waste from paddy rice cultivation has great potential to be used as raw material for making compost fertilizer. Compost fertilizer can improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of soil, its use is environmentally friendly, does not require much cost and the manufacturing process is easy. Rice straws can be converted into high-value compost raw materials by using an efficient rice c hopper machine, so it has the potential to be an additional source of income for farmers. Based on these circumstances, the need for an effective and efficient straw c hopper is essential in expanding rice straw compost production. This will save time and energy, and minimize dependence on manual chopping that requires many people. This research aims to design a rice straw c hopper, test the tool and analyze economic aspects such as cost, break event point (BEP), net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR). The results showed that the average effective capacity of the tool, yield and fuel consumption was 8.49 kg/hour, 85%, 1.35 liter/hour, respectively. The base cost is Rp2,964/kg, break event point is Rp1,920,149 kg/year, NPV value of 6% is obtained at Rp206,443,137.5/year and NPV value of 10% is Rp185,344,409.5/year and internal rate of return is 49,12%.
