Presuppositions in Retno Marsudi’s Speech at the 10Th Emergency Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly

Presupposition is one of the important topics related to pragmatics, which is defined as something that the speaker assumes to be true before making an utterance. Moreover, proposition is an element that cannot be ignored in understanding pragmatics. This study aims to find out the types of presupposition found in Retno Marsudi's speech at the 10th Emergency Special Session of the UN General Assembly, and to describe the proposition relations contained in Retno Marsudi's speech utterances at the 10th Emergency Special Session of the UN General Assembly. This research uses qualitative method which is conducted by collecting, categorizing and interpreting data in the form of phrases and clauses from the utterances produced. Moreover, to obtain the proposition, it is analyzed by considering the type of presupposition and analyzing the overall context in this speech. As a result, the researcher found 5 types of presuppositions in Retno Marsudi's speech. Out of a total of 33 data, the most used type of presupposition is Existential Presupposition with 12 data, followed by Factive Presupposition with 11 data, then Lexical Presupposition with 6 data, then Structural Presupposition and Counterfactual Presupposition with 2 data.
