dc.description.abstract | Cultural heritage in Indonesia is a legacy of the past that reflects the nation's rich history and culture. As a country with diverse ethnicities, languages and
traditions, Indonesia has many cultural heritage sites spread across various regions. The existence of this cultural heritage is not only a silent witness to the
country's history but can also function as a national identity. The importance of maintaining this cultural heritage becomes increasingly important in an era of
globalization that tends to change, where the flow of modernization and urbanization often threatens the existence of these historical sites.
Education about cultural heritage and its future and preservation efforts is needed in society. Amid Indonesia's growing population, an effective strategy is
required to educate the public about the value and importance of cultural heritage. Education that is integrated with cultural heritage preservation programs can
increase the younger generation's awareness of their responsibility to preserve cultural heritage.
Additionally, libraries play an important role in supporting this education. As a center for knowledge and information, libraries can provide access to various
sources related to cultural and historical heritage. Libraries can also be a place to hold educational activities that invite the public to know and appreciate cultural
heritage better. Thus, the library not only functions as a place to store books but also as a center for learning and preserving culture. Therefore, the protection and
preservation of cultural heritage must be a joint priority involving various parties, including the government and society.
The importance of cultural heritage can be seen in the city of Medan, namely a cultural heritage in the form of a building called the Gedung Nasional Medan.
This building is a historical witness where community organizations and local figures gather to discuss the nation's development. However, currently, the building
has been neglected and turned into an illegal settlement. Through the adaptive reuse method, this building can be used as an educational facility where the public
can learn about the importance of preserving cultural heritage and understanding historical sites. | en_US |
