Potential Benefits of Sugar Palm (Arenga Pinnata Merr) as Sources of Income For The Community of Tanjung Sena Village, Sibiru-biru District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatera
Abstract
Sugar palm is a type of palm that originates from the region tropical Asia, which is spread throughout almost all of Indonesia. Sugar palm is one of the plantation crop that has great potential to be developed and easily adapts well to various agro-climates, from lowlands to 1400 m above sea level. This search aim to analyze potential the benefits of sugar palm and the economic value of sugar palm developed by the community in the village Tanjung Sena, Sibiru-biru, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatera. Respondens were taking by using the census method among the community managing sugar palm with a total of 10 respondents. Data anaylisis carried out in Tanjung Sena Village is analysis economic value. The economic value obtained from the type of sugar palm production in the Tanjung Sena Village includes tree categories. The first is the production of sap water amounting to Rp. 119.902.500/year with a percentage of 49%. Second, palm wine production amounting Rp. 75.857.500/year with a percentage pf 31%, brown sugar production of Rp. 50.762.000/year with a percentage of 20%. From the result of calculating the economic value, it was concluded that sugar palm has economic potential value to be used as a source of income for the community in Tanjung Sena Village.
