dc.description.abstract | Mangrove forests are ecosystems that play an important role in carbon absorption and have a greater carbon storage capacity than other forest types because of their muddy substrate and unique roots. Aceh Tamiang is a district with a mangrove forest area about of ±22,900 ha. However, various anthropogenic activities cause a lot of damages and mangrove lost. Mangrove deforestation and degradationled significant carbon emissions and contribute to the majority of greenhouse gas emissions. This research was conducted to analyze the biomass content of mangrove stands and carbon stocks in natural mangrove forests in Pusong Kapal Village, Aceh Tamiang Regency. The carbon stocks were measured consists of four carbon pool components, namely aboveground and belowground biomass, dead wood, and soil organic carbon. The non-destructive sampling method was applied in this research to calculate carbon stocks using the allometric equation. Dead wood located above the ground surface was also measured using the non-destructive line intersect technique. Soil core samples were taken to determine the organic carbon content by collecting subsamples 5 cm from the depth of the soil (0-100 cm). The research results showed that the aboveground biomass content was 199.75 Mg/ha and the belowground biomass content was 58.97 Mg/ha, aboveground carbon stock have a value of 99.87 MgC/ha, belowground carbon is 29.48 MgC/ha, dead wood is 91.08 MgC/ha, and soil carbon ranges from 221.05 - 505.28 MgC/ha. The research results provided information about the amount of biomass content and carbon stock lost if mangrove forests are converted to other land covers, so that they can be used as a reference in making policies regarding mangrove management in the future. | en_US |
