Structure, Composition and Biomass Potential of Understory in Agarwood Stands in Hessa Perlompongan Village and Sidomukti Village, Asahan Regency
Abstract
Carbon content and biomass of the understory are influenced by the types of constituent plants. This study aims to identify the diversity of understory plant species and to analyze the structure, composition and potential of understory plant biomass and understory plant carbon potential in agarwood stands in Hessa Perlompongan Village and Sidomukti Village. The research was conducted using purposive sampling method to collect data on the composition structure to help the identification process. Measurement of understory biomass was carried out to evaluate the total amount of biomass produced by plants under agarwood stands. The results of the study showed that there were undergrowth in Hessa Perlompongan Village obtained as many as 48 individuals, while Sidomukti Village obtained 17 individuals. The potential biomass of understory plants in Hessa Perlompongan Village is 2.12 tons/ha while in Sidomukti Village it is 0.11 tons/ha while the carbon potential of understory plants in Hessa Perlompongan Village is 0.40 tons/ha while in Sidomukti Village it is 0.14 tons/ha. This research was conducted in two different locations, Hessa Perlompongan Village and Sidomukti Village in Asahan Regency to find out the differences in the composition structure and potential of understory biomass in agarwood stands in the area. By comparing the two locations, factors that influence the diversity and productivity of the understory can be identified.
