This study aims to understand the information seeking behavior of students in the Faculty of Cultural Studies at Universitas Sumatera Utara using ChatGPT, based on Kulthau's theory. This study was a descriptive qualitative study with a population of active undergraduate students in the Faculty of Cultural Studies at Universitas Sumatera Utara. The sample was collected using a purposive sampling technique, with 10 students from 10 study programs. Data was gathered through interviews. Based on Kuhlthau's theory, the information seeking behavior was identified through the initiation stage, where students demonstrated good awareness of their information needs. Moving on to the topic selection stage, the students demonstrated an ability to select relevant and engaging topics for exploration. During the exploration stage, they actively sought various information sources using ChatGPT. The focus formulation stage highlighted the students' ability to articulate a focus for their research clearly. At the presentation stage, students effectively conveyed their information search results. However, at the collection stage, students still needed to fully meet the expected information seeking behavior, indicating a need to improve skills related to systematically gathering and organizing information. The results of this study showed that students of the Faculty of Cultural Studies at Universitas Sumatera Utara perform all stages of information-seeking based on the theory proposed by Kuhlthau (1993) when searching for information using ChatGPT.
