Analysis of Sarcasm in The Comment Section by Netizen of Benjamin Netanyahu Instagram Post

Abstract

This study about sarcasm analysis of Benjamin Netanyahu’s comment section as the data. This study employed a qualitative method with content analysis as the research design. It focuses on the types of sarcastic language used by netizens. The research aims to identify and analyze the types of sarcasm present in the netizen comments on Netanyahu’s Instagram posts. The study examines 50 comments across five posts dated from May 6 to May 9, 2024. The data include words, phrases, and sentences identified as sarcastic. The analysis revealed four types of sarcasm: Propositional Sarcasm, Illocutionary Sarcasm, Lexical Sarcasm and Like – Prefixed Sarcasm. Propositional sarcasm was the most frequent, accounting for 42% of the instances, followed by illocutionary sarcasm (32%), lexical sarcasm (24%), and like – prefixed sarcasm (2%). The study concludes that propositional sarcasm dominates the comments due to the strong negative sentiments towards Netanyahu’s posts. influenced by the political context. This research provides insights into the expressive use of sarcasm on social media, has been contributed to the understanding of online communication dynamics.
