Analisis Sitiran terhadap Penggunaan Buku dan Jurnal dalam Penulisan Tesis Magister Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara Tahun 2019-2023

Abstract

This research analyses citation patterns, literature characteristics, and authorship patterns in books and articles citations in thesis writing of communication science at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatra Utara in 2019-2023. A descriptive method was conducted to collect and analyse data from 52 theses as the research population. The results showed that thesis citation patterns from 2019-2023 exhibited significant variations in book and article usage, especially book citations dominating each year. Specifically, Indonesian-language literature was predominantly cited. The authorship pattern revealed that 65% of citations came from the single author with an average of 17 citations per thesis. This study also identified the most frequently cited authors: Sugiyono, for his book on quantitative, qualitative, and R&D research methods, and Onong Uchjana Effendy, for his book title "Communication Science Theory and Practice." In the communication journal category, Rahmanita Ginting was frequently cited. The results also indicated that the Communication Science thesis still lacked citations from journal articles, especially reputable ones.
