Facility Layout Redesign Proposal Using Pairwise Exchange Method and CORELAP Algorithm at CV. Chandra Jaya
Abstract
CV. Chandra Jaya is a company engaged in furniture that produces guest chairs,
guest tables, and wardrobes. The company has a common problem, namely the
company's inability to complete the production target within the specified
timeframe. The common problem is the result of an inefficient production trajectory
because there is backtracking, by-passing, cross movement, and material movement
between stations that are far apart. This problem can be solved by using an
improved production floor layout using the Pairwise Exchange Method and
CORELAP Algorithm. This research aims to design a production floor layout that
can minimize distance, total displacement moments, and material handling costs,
with a line efficiency rate above 75%. The results of this study show a decrease in
the total displacement distance on the production floor from 297.70 meters to
263.58 meters using the Pairwise Exchange method and by 231.24 meters using the
CORELAP Algorithm. The total moment of movement on the production floor also
shows a decrease from 21,197.23 meters / month to 17,776.44 meters / month using
the Pairwise Exchange method and by 15,820.93 meters / month using the
CORELAP Algorithm. Material Handling Costs on the production floor also
decreased from Rp 2,500,000/month to Rp 2,096,553/month using the Pairwise
Exchange method and by Rp 1,865,920/month using the CORELAP Algorithm. The
selected layout using the CORELAP Algorithm with a line efficiency rate of 81.94.
Based on the selected proposed layout, the number of products previously increased
from 24 units to 32 units and there was an increase in profits over a 5-year period
of Rp 518,957,097. The proposed facility layout is able to increase productivity as
seen through an increase in the achievement of production targets by 38.93% for
guest chair products, 43.53% for guest table products and 54.84% for wardrobe
products.
