Refleksi Kerusuhan Mei 1998 dalam Novel Pulang Karya Leila S. Chudori: Pendekatan Historis

Abstract

The riots, which were motivated by people's dissatisfaction with the government, brought about a historic event for Indonesia known as the May 1998 riots. The May 1998 riots were the end of the reform movement in the same year which occurred in several regions in Indonesia. This research aims to describe the reflection of the May 1998 riots in the Novel Pulang by Leila S. Chudori so that we can see the May 1998 riots, the 1998 student movement, the factors causing the May 1998 riots, and the resignation of President Soeharto. The method used is descriptive qualitative using reading and note-taking techniques to obtain research data sourced from the Novel Pulang by Leila S. Chudori. This research uses a historical approach proposed by Nyoman Kutha Ratna, namely literary works as a representation of the traditions of their time. The results of this research obtained 1) the May 1998 riots obtained 13 data; 2) the 1998 student movement obtained 6 data; 3) factors causing the riots in May 1998 6 data; and 4) resignation of President Soeharto 2 data.
