Pengaruh Kemasan Penyimpanan Benih terhadap Viabilitas Benih Cabai Merah (Capsicum Annuum L.)
The Effect of Seed Storage Packaging on the Viability of Red Chili Seeds (Capsicum Annuum L.)
Abstract
The chili plant is a shrub that has been grown for centuries in Indonesia. Farmers must be able to store seeds correctly, so that they can continue to carry out cultivation activities. If there is a scarcity of seeds available on the market, farmers can still carry out chili cultivation activities. There are several stages or steps that must be prepared for cultivating red chilies, including selecting superior and high quality red chili seeds. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of seed storage packaging on the viability of red chili seeds. Chili fruit was taken from Lubuk Cuik Village, Limapuluh District, Batu Bara Regency in June 2023. Research was carried out at the Seed Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan at an altitude of ± 30 meters above sea level from June to November . The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments, namely P1 (Aluminium foil), P2 (Paper), P3 (Plastic Clip) P4, (Glass Jar). Each treatment had 6 replications so there were 24 research units. The results of the research showed that the aluminum foil storage packaging treatment was the best treatment which had a significant effect on the maximum growth potential parameters (95.33%), germination percentage normal (92.33%), dead seeds (4.67%), germination rate (5 .58 days), vigor index (8.84%), high germination (4.02 cm), germination wet weight (4.60g) and germination dry weight (0.53g). However, germination percentage abnormal produce no real effect.
