Analysis of Indonesian Tobacco Demand in the Dominican Republic Market
Abstract
Indonesia is one of the largest tobacco producing countries in the world. Indonesia's tobacco production is able to compete in the international market by ranking fifteenth as the largest tobacco export country in the world. The Dominican Republic is a country that is active in importing Indonesian tobacco with relatively increasing demand. The objectives of this research are: to 1) analyze the competitive demand for Indonesian tobacco in the Dominican Republic market; 2) analyze the effect of price changes on demand for Indonesian tobacco in the Dominican Republic market; 3) analyze the influence of Dominican Republic expenditure on Indonesian tobacco demand. The data used is secondary time series data for the period 2003-2022 which comes from Uncomtrade. This research uses the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS) model method using the SAS website. The analysis results show that the percentage of the USA market share is 79.33%; Indonesia 8.95%; Nicaragua 7.11%, and Brazil 4.6%. Indonesian tobacco is an elastic product. The cross price elasticity of Indonesian tobacco is complementary to that of the USA and Nicargua, while it is complementary to that of Brazil. The elasticity of Indonesian tobacco production is among the superior goods in the Dominican Republic market.
