According to data obtained from the DDTC NEWS website, the number of employees at the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) currently reaches 45,382 people. Of this number, around 2,306 are tax instructors. On the other hand, in 2023, there will be 69.1 million registered taxpayers. The impact is that one tax officer has to handle a number of taxpayers reaching thousands or even tens of thousands. The availability of DJP employees has not yet optimized implementation in serving the community. One effective solution that the government can take is to establish a tax volunteer program for university students.
The purpose of this research is to analyze the role of the tax volunteer program in increasing USU students' interest in pursuing a career in the field of Taxation. The
form of research used in this research is qualitative research with a descriptive approach which uses primary data sources obtained directly from respondents through interviews in the form of respondents' opinions, experiences, perceptions and points of view. The data analysis method used is by collecting data through interviews, documentation, Focus Group Discussion (FGD)
The results of the research show that the tax volunteer program has quite high interest or enthusiasm among Univeritas Sumatera Utara students and plays a role in increasing the interest of Universitas Sumatera Utara students, especially the Diploma Three Tax Administration study program, to pursue a career in taxation.
