Senior practical writing is one of the activities in completing the final project in the
Professional Nursing Education Study Program, Faculty of Nursing, University of
North Sumatra. Nutritional status is a description of a person's daily nutrient intake
or the balance between the intake of nutrients from food and the nutritional needs
needed to metabolize the body. Meeting the nutritional needs of school-age children
can support the physical and developmental needs of school-age children.
Inadequate nutrition leads to malnutrition (undernutrition) and overweight
(overweight). The purpose of this paper is to determine the screening of the
nutritional status of elementary school children and the level of knowledge about
nutrition at SDN 104255 in Paluh Sibaji. Data collection begins with collecting
demographic data, anthropometric measurements, clinical examinations,
calculating IMT/U, and giving questionnaires on the level of knowledge about
nutrition and providing health education to school children. Respondents totaled 5
grade 5 elementary school children. The results of data collection obtained the
majority of respondents have a nutritional status of less than 4 people (80%), and
the level of knowledge of children about nutrition is in the category of less (100%).
So it is hoped that health workers can increase counseling about nutrition for
school children in schools and in the wider community.
