Abstract

Startups in their journey must conceive a solution that is most needed by the market and has innovation value in its product. Startups with limited capital in the bootstrapping stage are required to be ready to enter the free market in the digital era that can achieve innovation success. This study aims to examine how self-efficacy in creativity, risk-taking propensity, and self-leadership influence innovative behavior. This study will also involve the moderating variable of knowledge sharing in each interaction of variables on innovative behavior. The population in this study is 117 founders of bootstrapping stage startup companies in Medan City who are registered in one of the startup incubator institutions. Hypothesis testing uses quantitative calculations using the SmartPLS 3 application for Windows. The results of the study indicate that self-efficacy in creativity, risk-taking propensity, and self-leadership positively influence innovative behavior. The moderating role of knowledge sharing in this study also proves to enhance the influence of self-efficacy in creativity, risk-taking propensity, and self-leadership. The implications of this study can be applied to each startup founder themselves and startup incubator institutions.
