Indonesia is a democratic country that evidenced by direct elections by the
people. General elections are a political means to realize the will of the people in
electing regional heads / vice regional heads, DPR, DPRD and DPD. In order to
become a candidate, age is an important factor that must be fulfilled. In
accordance with the provisions, to become a Governor / Vice Governor must be
30 years old, while to become a Regent / Vice Regent and Mayor / Vice Mayor is
25 years old. The regulation on the minimum age limit is not in line with other
laws and regulations that regulate similar matters, namely the age of a legislative
candidates (DPR, DPRD and DPD) is 21 years. This research method conducts
normative legal research which is descriptive analysis. The data used consists of
secondary data collected using library research. The data were analyzed using
qualitative data analysis methods. Based on research, this minimum age
limitation for candidates for regional head and vice regional must be in line with
similiar laws and regulations, so that everyone has the same opportunity to be
elected as a public official. In addition, the age limit for candidates for regional
head cannot be used as a standard and measure for public office that demands the
trust of people who are directly elected through a direct election in accordance
with the Indonesian democratic system.
