Proposed Redesign of The Production Floor Layout for Making Oil & Gas Screens Using The Graph and Craft Method at Pipa Mas Putih Company
Abstract
Production floor layout is the arrangement or planning of space within a factory or
production facility that regulates the position of machinery, equipment, work areas,
and material movement paths. Pipa Mas Putih company is a manufacturing
company that produces screens for the oil and gas industry. This company has a
common problem, namely the non-achievement of production targets due to the
inefficient flow of materials on the production floor layout. This is caused by cross
movement, backtracking, and the large distance between stations. So that the
distance of material movement, the frequency of movement, and the total moment
of movement are quite large. This problem can be solved by making improvements
to the production floor layout using the graph method and the Computerised
Relative Allocation of Facilities Technique (CRAFT) algorithm. This research aims
to design a production floor layout that can minimise the distance of material
movement, the total moment of movement, and increase the line efficiency rate
value above 75%. After redesigning the layout, the proposed layout of the graph
method was obtained as many as 2 alternatives and the CRAFT algorithm as many
as 2 alternatives. Based on the results of the research, the selected proposed layout
is alternative graph method 2. The results of the research with alternative graph
method 2 are a decrease in the value of material displacement distance and total
displacement moment from 607.4 metres to 331.04 metres for material
displacement distance and 31,502.9 m / month to 16,494.4 m / month for total
displacement moment, as well as an increase in line efficiency rate value from
58.92% to 92.29%.
