This pre-design for a margarine production plant aims to meet both domestic and
international margarine demands by utilizing local raw materials, specifically corn seeds. The margarine production process consists of two main stages: extracting corn oil using the expeller pressing method, followed by the hydrogenation method
to alter the oil’s physical properties. The plant is designed with a production capacity of 15,000 tons/year, taking into account technical, economic, and safety
aspects. The margarine plant is planned to be built on Jl. Kl. Yos Sudarso, Kota Bangun Village, Medan Deli District, Medan City, North Sumatra, with a land area
of 22,345 m2. This margarine plant will operate for 330 days per year continuously, 24 hours a day, with a total of 160 employees. The business entity for this margarine plant pre-design is a Limited Liability Company (PT). The establishment and operation of the plant require an investment capital of IDR 153,343,773,939.31 and
production costs of IDR 568,119,547,062.59. Based on the economic analysis, this margarine plant has a Profit Margin (PM) of 39.73%, Break Even Point (BEP) of 39,98%, Return on Investment (ROI) of 39,73%, Pay Out Time (POT) of 2.52 years, Return on Net Worth (RONW) of 66.22%, and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of
47.6%. From these results, it can be concluded that the pre-design of a margarine production plant from corn seeds through the expeller pressing and hydrogenation process with a capacity of 15,000 tons/year is feasible to be built.
