Design and Construction of Sawdust Waste Incinerator for Electricity Generation Using Thermoelectric Generators (Case Study at Desa Bangun II Kabupaten Dairi)
Abstract
Currently, humans cannot be separated from the use of electrical energy and this need will continue to increase along with technological developments and advances. Apart from the increasing need for electrical energy, there is also a waste problem in the form of sawdust which occurs in Bangun II, Parbuluan District, Dairi Regency, North Sumatra province. One of solution for two problems above is to use sawdust waste as a source of thermal energy through a combustion process, and than this thermal energy converted into electrical energy using a thermoelectric generator. The purpose of this research is to design a sawdust waste incinerator to produce electrical energy using a thermoelectric generator. From this research, it is known that by burning 8 kg of sawdust waste for 1 hour, the maximum voltage produced by the thermoelectric series arrangement in an open circuit is 12,47 V with a ΔT = 77,23℃. While the maximum voltage produced by the thermoelectric series arrangement with glasswol coating variation is 14,59 V when ΔT = 87,50ºC. The maximum electrical power generated during loading before coating the glass wool on the side of the incinerator is 3,58 W with a voltage of 12.77 V and current of 0.28 A in series arrangement and the maximum electrical power generated with the glass wool coating variation is 4,90 W with a voltage of 12,9 V and a current of 0.38 A in series circuit arrangement.
