This study analyzes expressive speech acts in the Japanese anime "Mirai of the
Future," which tells the story of a small family, focusing on a 3 year old boy
named Kun-chan who has a newly born sister, Mirai Chan. After Mirai Chan is
born, Kun Chan feels that he has lost his parents attention, becomes jealous, and
makes mistakes such as hitting his sister Mirai Chan in an attempt to draw his
parents attention. Kun Chan feels that his parents do not care about him. The data
was collected by listening to the narration of the anime "Mirai of the Future" and
extracting transcripts of the dialogue, and the author used the note method to
record data related to expressive speech acts. The data presentation was
conducted using a qualitative descriptive method. From thirty-six pieces of data,
two forms of expressive speech acts were identified : twenty six direct speech acts
and ten indirect speech acts. The functions of these expressive speech acts include
eight utterances of complaints, seven of anger, three of mockery, three of blaming
others, two of expectation, nine of praise, one of apology, and three of gratitude.
