The Relationship of Knowledge and Attitude with the Incidence of Worms in Children State Elementary School 0506 Tanggabosi Padang Lawas District in 2024
Abstract
Worms are a disease that is transmitted through the soil and is caused by
intestinal parasites, namely Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura,
Ancylostoma duodenale, and Necator americanus. World Health Organization
(WHO) in 2022, the prevalence of worm infections transmitted through soil
reached 11.22 percent of the world's population, in Southeast Asia it was 37.49
percent, in Indonesia, data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health found a worm
prevalence rate of 62%, in Sumatra North by 60.4%. From the Padang Lawas
Health Service, it was found to be 5%. This research aims to determine the
relationship between knowledge and attitudes and the incidence of worms in
children state elementary school 0506 Tanggabosi, Padang Lawas Regency in
2024. The type of research used is quantitative research with a cross sectional
design. The population of this study were all children state elementary school
0506 Tanggabosi, Padang Lawas Regency. The sample used in this research was
92 elementary school children using total sampling. Analyze univariate data
descriptively and bivariate data using the Chi-square test. Based on the results
obtained, the proportion of worm infections in children state elementary school
0506 Tanggabosi, Padang Lawas Regency was 62.5%. The results of the chi
square test show that there is a relationship between the variables knowledge (p
<0.05), attitude (p <0.05), use of toilets at school (p <0, 05) with worms.
Meanwhile, variables that were not related to the incidence of worms were gender
(p > 0.05), age (p > 0.05), source of clean water at home (p > 0.05), clean water
sources at school (p <0.05), availability of a toilet at school (p > 0.05). It is
recommended that parents, teachers and health workers provide education about
worms and can give worm medicine to elementary school children.
