Correlation between Family Support as Medicine Taking Controller and Adherence to Taking Medicines in TB Paru (Pulmonary Tuberculosis) Patients at Hamparan Perak Public Health Center
Abstract
TB Paru (pulmonary tuberculosis) is an infectious disease which is still people's health problem. It is one the transmitted diseases which also becomes the health problem for all people throughout the world. Non-compliance with taking medicines regularly can cause resistance to OAT (Anti-Tuberculosis Medicine); one of its factors is the lack of family support for TB Paru patients. Besides that, they also need PMO (Medicine Taking Comptroller) to guarantee the regularity of medical treatment and to control the patients during the treatment. The objective of the research is to analyze the correlation between family support and adherence to taking medicines in TB Paru patients at Hamparan Perak Public Health Center. This research uses quantitative research method with cross- sectional design. There are 51 TB Paru patients as the respondents. The data are collected by conducting interview with the respondents; the questions are in accordance with the content of the questionnaire. The result of the research shows that there is the correlation between family support and adherence to taking medicines in TB Paru patients. The result of Spearman rho statistic test shows that p-value 0.000 (p<0.05). The result of this research is expected to be the evaluation material for health care providers so that they can enhance counseling about the importance of family support and increase health education, especially about adherence to taking medicines in TB Paru patients and their families so that they are resistant to OAT.
