Background: The acquisition of library collections is the initial process of stocking a newly established library or enhancing an existing one with new information resources. For established libraries, the activity involves supplementing and expanding the current collection.
Objective: This research aims to examine the stages involved in the procurement of library materials at the North Sumatra Provincial Library and Archives Service. The procurement of materials is a vital activity in providing information resources to meet the needs of library users.
Method: The study uses a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and document analysis.
Findings: The research findings indicate that the process of procuring library materials at the North Sumatra Provincial Library and Archives Service follows stages of purchasing, donations, and the implementation of law No. 13 of 2018 regarding the submission of printed and recorded works. The funding for procurement comes from the North Sumatra Provincial APBD (Regional Budget). The selection of materials is carried out by a selection team, considering the needs of users, informational value, and collection completeness.
