Ginger compress can be used as a complementary therapy because ginger
contains a natural substance called oleoresin which consists of zingeron,
gingerol, and shogool. Ginger natural substances give spicy, warm properties will
make blood vessels dilate so as to increase blood flow to get an anti-pain effect,
muscle relaxation and increase joint flexibility so that the inflammatory process is
reduced which can then have the effect of reducing pain sensations. The purpose
of this study aims to determine the effectiveness of ginger compresses on muscle
strength in the elderly who experience knee joint problems in Klumpang Kebun
Village. The research design used was One Group pre-post test design with 32
samples through purposive sampling. The results of this study indicate that before
giving ginger compresses to lower extremity muscle strength in the elderly who
experience knee joint problems, the average value is 10.06. While after giving
ginger compresses to lower extremity muscle strength in the elderly who
experience knee joint problems shows an average value of 12.38. The results of
the Paired Sample T-Test Analysis showed a significant effect on the compress on
the muscle strength of the lower extremities of the elderly who experienced knee
joint problems, as evidenced by the p value of 0.000. Based on these results, it is
recommended that cadres and health workers can provide counseling on ginger
compresses on muscle strength.
