    Abstract
Activated carbon is carbon that has good absorption capacity in a solution or gas against cation molecules, anions or molecules in the form of organic and inorganic compounds. Activated carbon can be processed from materials that have high carbon content, such as materials that contain a lot of cellulose so that there are active carbonyl, hydroxyl, and ether groups that are useful in the adsorption process. Predesign of activated carbon manufacturing plant from mangosteen peel with production capacity of 9,000 tons/year operates with carbonization process and operating time for 330 days in one year. The main process in this pre-design consists of 4 process stages, namely: mangosteen peel pre-treatment process, impregnation process, carbonization process and finishing. In the carbonization stage, Rotary Kiln reactor is used which operates at a temperature of 500 C at a pressure of 1 atm for 1 hour. The amount of mangosteen peel needed to achieve activated carbon production capacity of 9.000 tons/year or 1.136,3636 Kg/Hour is 4.383,8126 Kg/Hour. The factory for making activated carbon from mangosteen peel is planned to be established in Lambung Bukit Village, Pauh District, Padang City, West Sumatra with a total factory area of 9.843,24 m2. The water requirement at this factory is supplied from the Batang Kuranji River, Pauh District, Padang City, West Sumatra as much as 16.177,4477 Kg/Hour. The planned from of company organization is Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational structure and a total of 188 employees. For the establishment an operation of the factory requires investment capital of IDR 856.941.125.279,- and production costs of IDR 989.453.174.205,-. Based on th feasibility analysis, this plant has a BEP 44,01%, ROI of 18,73%, POT for 5,36 years, RON of 31,09% and IRR of 26,65%. Based of the result of the economic analysis, it can be concluded that the factory for making activated carbon from mangosteen peel with production capacity of 9,000 tons/year is feasible to be established.
