A Description of Figurative Language in Flume’s Selected Songs

This study uses figurative language theory, which aims to identify and describe the
figurative language contained in five Flume songs. There are 8 types of figure of speech
found in Flume's song, namely metaphor, personification, hyperbole, simile, irony, paradox,
metonymy, and symbolism. There are 28 sentences that use figurative language in the lyrics
of the song, methapor is the most dominant type of figurative language that appears in this
song, the use of methapor in the song gives way to add an artistic and imaginative dimension
to his works. Using the theory of figure of speech put forward by Abrams. Through this
research, the reader can understand the use of figure of speech and its types in song lyrics so
that the message the author wants to convey to the listeners of the song. By these
classifications, we can recognize well which one includes each figurative speech. The result
of this study will be able to give contribution to the readers who are interested in learning and
understanding or interpreting those lyrics.
