This research is titled "Environmental Journalism Practices in the Framing of PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power’s Gas Poisoning Case Coverage on Kompas.com." The study aims to understand how environmental journalism practices are applied in the framing of the gas poisoning case at PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power in the Kompas.com media. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a framing analysis technique based on Robert N. Entman's model, which focuses on four main functions: defining the problem, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and suggesting remedies. Data were collected through content analysis of the PT SMGP news published by Kompas.com on February 25, 2024, and interviews with three field journalists from Kompas.com conducted from May 29 to June 2, 2024. The research was carried out over three months, from April to June 2024. The results show that Kompas.com’s coverage of the H₂S gas leak at PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (SMGP) was less than optimal in fulfilling environmental journalism aspects. The coverage primarily focused on the social impact, without delving deeper into the ecological and scientific aspects, and there was minimal involvement of experts or in-depth investigation. These limitations risk reducing public understanding of renewable energy issues and the more complex environmental risks. Furthermore, the research also highlights the influence of digital journalism, where in digital news reporting, in-depth investigation and long-term analysis are often neglected due to the pressure to produce brief and fast news.
