According to Law Number 7 of 2017, the composition of KPU membership, provincial KPU membership, and KPU membership at the regency/city level takes into account the representation of women at least 30% (thirty percent). The policy of affirmative action for women is implemented to reduce gender disparities in election institutions. Women's participation in election institutions is crucial not only to meet the 30% representation of women but also to ensure the integrity, independence, professionalism, and transparency of election management. However, in the recruitment of the Election Commission at the regency level in the Sumut 1 region for the period 2023-2028, it shows that women's representation has not yet reached the minimum of 30%. This has prompted researchers to conduct research to determine how affirmative action for women is implemented in the recruitment of the Election Commission at the regency level in Sumut 1. The research method used is qualitative. The results show that the low representation of women in election institutions at the regency level in Sumut 1 is influenced by the low number of female applicants, the lower abilities of women compared to men, and the lack of women's representation in the selection team that can monitor women's representation during the recruitment process. The affirmative action policy for women in the recruitment of election institutions in Sumut 1 has not yet been achieved, so it is hoped that in the formation of the next selection team, they will consider women's representation, conduct socialization among women to increase the number of female applicants, so that the goals of the affirmative action policy can be achieved.en_US
