dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this thesis is to describes signs found in the film The Godfather: Part II and interprets the signs through the semiotics theory of Charles Sanders Peirce. This thesis used qualitative-descriptive method started by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting the data with the film The Godfather: Part II as the source of data, and the data in this study are in the form images that contain signs. The theory used to analyze the data found is semiotics theory of icon, index, and symbol proposed by Charles Sanders Peirce. The findings of this study are consisted of the signs found in the film. There are twenty signs found in the film consists of two icons, fourteen indexes, and six symbols. The signs can be interpreted using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotics theory of icon, index, and symbol. The signs interpretation is within Charles Sanders Peirce definition of icon, index, and symbol. Context of the scene is used to helped interpret the signs and further explanation of the interpretation is in the form of the writer’s opinion that based on his understanding of the film storyline.en_US
