Medansche Zwembad, Kolam Renang Pertama di Kota Medan (1924-1942)

Abstract

This research aims to explain the establishment of Medansche Zwembad as the first swimming pool in Medan. This swimming pool had an important role in the development of swimming in Medan at that time. What will be discussed in depth about this thesis is how the process of building this swimming pool, who manages this swimming pool and how this swimming pool carries out its activities every year. In this study, methods are used as a reference in historical writing, namely Heuristic, Source Criticism, Interpretation, and Historiography. The data used in this study are sourced from literature studies and analysis data. The results found in this show that after the establishment of this swimming pool in 1924, as the only swimming pool in the city of Medan was able to develop rapidly like other swimming pools in Europe. Medansche Zwemveereniging as the association that manages this swimming pool is also very important in the process of planning, building, and developing this swimming pool. During this period, Medansche Zwembad underwent two major renovations, in 1934 and 1938.
