This thesis is a sociology of literature study that focuses on the woman’s bias in a Japanese translated novel. It aimed to examine the forms of woman’s bias depicted in the novel, as well as the women character’s attitudes react toward the woman’s bias. It also looked into how woman’s bias occurred, that contributed to gender inequality. The method of study used in this thesis was qualitative content analysis method. The research data is lingual from quotations that were collected from the quotations found in the novel Diary of a Void. Books, articles, journals, and other sources relevant to the topic addressed in this thesis were also used as the references to support the process of data analysis. Based on the data analyzed, it was found that the women characters present four forms of woman's bias, they are subordination, stereotype, violence, and workload. These four forms are primarily caused by the environment of patriarchal society. Some of the women characters resisted these biases as a form of feminist action, while others accepted it as a form of internalized norms, comfort and acceptance, or personal beliefs. It is concluded that the novel depicts the woman’s bias still exists in Japan, despite Japan’s reputations as a modern and outstanding country in Asia.en_US
