The Role of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the Medan Police in Providing Protection for Children Victims of Crime
Abstract
The many problems related to children who are used as victims, such as children as victims of abuse, violence, exploitation, to even unimaginable cases are problems that must be considered, especially about the protection provided. Where children as a vulnerable group really need full protection and support so that a child's growth can run reasonably both physically, mentally and socially. The purpose of this study is to explain the role of the police, especially the PPA Unit in providing protection for children who are victims of criminal acts. This research was conducted in the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Medan Police using six informants consisting of one key informant, three main informants, and two additional informants. Data collection techniques using qualitative methods with interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study show that the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Medan Police has an active role in providing protection and support to children as victims of crime along with the rights of these children through various efforts such as handling cases professionally, playing a role in providing security and safety for children victims of crimes, ensuring confidentiality and maintaining the privacy of children as victims, providing mental or spiritual protection for children who are victims, as well as establishing relationships with related functions or institutions in providing protection services for children who are victims of criminal acts.
