Partisipasi Masyarakat dalam Pengelolaan Sampah pada Bank Sampah Induk New Normal di Mekar Mulyo Kecamatan Medan Selayang

Abstract

This research discusses community participation in waste management at the New Normal Parent Waste Bank in Mekar Mulyo, Medan Selayang Subdistrict. This research is motivated by the increase in the volume of waste produced by the population of Medan City which reaches 5,710 m3 /day. The waste production that is able to be transported by the Medan City Sanitation Department is only 68%, while 32% has not been transported. The main problem of the waste sector in Medan city is the number of illegal dumping. Based on this problem, a household-based Waste Bank was established in Mekar Mulyo, Medan Selayang Subdistrict, with the concept of giving rewards to those who successfully sort and deposit a certain amount of waste. The establishment of the New Normal Parent Waste Bank calls for everyone to be responsible for the waste produced. However, the success of the waste bank program requires community participation in managing the waste bank so that the objectives of the waste bank program can be channeled properly. This study aims to determine community participation in waste management at the New Normal Parent Waste Bank in Mekar Mulyo, Medan Selayang District. This research uses analysis theory, community participation theory and waste management theory. By using a qualitative approach research method which provides results that in waste management in waste banks based on data obtained in the field through observations and interviews researchers concluded that the community actively participates in it. This community participation is assessed through observations and interviews by informants who are residents of Tanjung Sari Village who deposit garbage every week to the New Normal Mekar Mulyo Waste Bank.
