This study focused on the use of language in conversational interactions in the film “The Favourite” using Dell Hymes’ SPEAKING model. The objectives of this research are to identify the elements of the SPEAKING model present in the film and to explore how these elements illustrate the social context. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving the transcription of dialogues from the film and the identification of SPEAKING model elements within these dialogues. The findings reveal that the elements of the SPEAKING model, such as context and norms of interaction, play a crucial role in depicting the social dynamics and interactions between characters in the film. Key characters use language strategically to manipulate and achieve their goals, reflecting the use of language within the complex social hierarchy.en_US
