dc.description.abstract | This thesis analyzed the use of satire in Dave Chappelle's stand-up comedy. This research aims to classify the types of satire and the functions of satire. The data used in this research is Dave Chappelle’s satrical utterances, including phrases and sentences that contain satires that raised racial and LGBTQ issues. Qualitative research with the content analysis method was used in this research. The data was taken from all the special videos of Dave Chappelle on the Netflix platform. From the data obtained, there are 29 utterances containing satire. The result of the research shows that there are only 2 types of satire found, namely Horatian satire 16 data and Juvenalian satire 13 data. In addition, the function of satire contained in Dave Chappelle's satire utterances is humorous 13 data, and criticizing 16 data. The result contains social issues such as human shortcomings, which is aimed at black people, and highlights the complexity the LGBTQ community. The result indicated that it has the function of criticizing sensitive issues such as racial discrimination and inequality. Through Chappelle's satire, it can encourage audiences to think more critically about issues that are often ignored. | en_US |
