In Indonesia, natural dyes have been used for a long time. This is due to
the abundance of resources that can be processed into clothing materials and
dyes obtained from plants. The rapidly growing industry is one of the good
opportunities and potentials to develop local brand textile products in Indonesia.
The use of natural dyes is the answer to the environmental damage caused by
synthetic dyes. This study was conducted to analyze the potential of sawn wood
powder waste consisting of damar, merbau, johar, durian, sengon, ketapang, teak,
mersawa, jabon, cengal, meranti batu, kuranji, cempedak, kapur, bambang,
meranti, sementok, kempas, mindi and mixture as textile dyes in the amount of
extraction yield, antibacterial activity, antioxidant, anti-UV and total phenolic
content. Based on the results of the study, the highest yield was shown by Merbau
extract of 9.11% with antioxidant activity of 6.67% and able to withstand UV C
and UV B rays. The dye application has been done by dipping and Ecoprint
techniques, where the highest antioxidant activity was shown by (Meranti Batu
71.79, Jabon 57.44, and Kuranji 56.81) with antibacterial activity (against gramnegative
E. Coli and gram-positive S. Aureus) the highest was shown by (Merbau
3.33, and Damar 1.67). This antioxidant and antibacterial activity is thought to be
influenced by the phenolic content of the extracts, where the highest content was
shown by Merbau 7.33, and Damar 1.67.
