This study analyzed the psychology of Ōba Yozo, the main character in Osamu Dazai’s novel No Longer Human. The purpose of this study was to describe the psychological state of Ōba Yozo before his death using Sigmund Freud’s theory. Id, Ego, and Superego. This study uses descriptive qualitative and literature methods. The data source for this study was the novel No Longer Human. As a result, Ōba Yozo psychological state was disturbed. Ōba Yozo is unable to face the truth about himself. Ōba Yozo was always controlled by his Ego, which made him even more depressed. The difference between Ōba Yozo intentions and his father’s intentions is one of the reasons for Ōba Yozo mental breakdown. Ōba Yozo did not have the courage to refuse his father’s wishes, and he agonized in his mind and tried to find a solution, but the solution was the wrong course of action. Ōba Yozo used drugs and committed sexual perversion. The Ego of Ōba Yozo ego strive for satisfaction.
