dc.description.abstract | This thesis is entitled "Ndilo Wari Udan on the Batak Karo ethnicity: A Study of Social Semiotics". Ndilo Wari Udan Etymologically means ''calling rain''.ndilo wari udan is a culture for the Batak Karo ethnic group characterized by magical, mystical, animistic beliefs with the aim of asking God for rain. The purpose of this study is to describe the shape of the symbol contained in ndilo wari udan, describe the function of the symbol contained in ndilo wari udan, and the meaning of the symbol which is contained in Ndilo Wari Udan. In this study, the method used is a descriptive qualitative method. The theory used in this study is the theory of social semiotics by M.A.K. Haliday, namely social semiotics is social semiotics is a discipline that is usually associated with efforts to understand the signs that exist in a certain society. Based on the results of the research, there are 20 forms of symbols, namely there are 20 types of symbol shapes in Ndilo Wari Udan including: pandan mats, daggers, white cloth, coconut shells, gongs, water, betel leaves, betel lime, areca nuts, betel stems, tobacco, areca nut flowers, gambiri, hazelnuts, jicama leaves, palm leaves, young coconut, bananas, chimpanzees, cigarettes, and black chicken. There are 20 types of functions of Ndilo Wari Udan including: Warmth, comfort, strength, courage, purity, cleanliness, simplicity, huhuhu, glory, harmony, life, unity, harmony, friendship, protection of purity, beauty, enlightenment, wisdom, freshness, resilience, fertility, prosperity, blessing, maturity, respect. There are 20 meanings of the symbol of Ndilo Wari Udan including: Warmth, comfort, strength, courage, purity, cleanliness, simplicity, hububang, glory, harmony, harmony, life, unity, harmony, friendship, protection of purity, beauty, enlightenment, wisdom, freshness, resilience, fertility, prosperity, blessings, maturity, respect, spiritual strength. | en_US |
