Simpaian Seniman Seni Rupa Indonesia di Kota Medan (1967-2016)
Simpaian Indonesian Art Artists in Medan City (1967-2016)
Abstract
This research discusses the background of the establishment of the Simpatan Seniman Seni Rupa Indonesia in Medan City (Simpassri), the rise and fall of Simpassri with its transition into a foundation due to various internal and external factors, and Simpassri's contribution as a platform for the creation and development of visual arts in Medan City. The method used in this research is a qualitative research method with a historical study approach, consisting of five stages: topic selection, heuristics (data collection), verification (source criticism), interpretation (analysis), and historiography (vwriting). In this research, the author found that Simpaian Seniman Seni Rupa Indonesia, or Simpassri, was founded in 1967 by Letjon A.Y. Mokoginta during a meeting of visual artists aimed at establishing a visual arts organization that encompasses several fields, including painting, photography, sculpture and architecture. Various efforts towards the organization's existence began to be seen during its golden era in the 1970s, when Simpassri was actively involved in various art and cultural activities, which continued through periods of rise and full into the modern era. Simpassri became a foundation in 1972 but experienced stagnation due to internal factors, such as the organizational spirit and management structure not aligning with the articles of association, as well as external factors, like the declining support and interest in visual arts in Medan City In 2014, under the leadership of Fuad Erdansyah. Simpassri began to revive and was officially reestablished as a foundation in 2016.
