This study about the legends that develop around Lake Toba, one of the most popular natural tourist destinations in Indonesia. The main focus of the resear ch is to understand the cultural and social meaning of these legends, and how they influenc e the identity of the Batak people. The methods used include literature studies, interviews with traditional leaders and field observations. According to theory, in ternational geologists say that the potential strength of the Toba supervolcano is volcanic tectonic potential. This means that at the beginning of the formation of Lake Toba, it appeared directly as a result of the giant caldera which was formed as a resu lt of an eruption 74,000 years ago.en_US
