Based on basic health research data (Riskesdas) in 2018, the number of chronic
kidney failure patients in Indonesia was 713,783 patients. Chronic Kidney Disease is
characterized by decreased kidney function, namely an estimated glomerular
filtration rate (LFG) below 60 mL/min per 1.73 m², as well as the presence of
albuminuria and hematuria that lasts for more than 3 months. One of the treatment
options for chronic kidney disease patients is hemodialysis. The most common side
effects in patients undergoing hemodialysis are nausea and vomiting, fever, fatigue,
pain and anxiety. The purpose of this writing is to provide nursing care with the
intervention of providing lavender aromatherapy to reduce the anxiety felt by patients
while undergoing hemodialysis in the Hemodialysis room at Haji Adam Malik
Hospital Medan. Lavender aromatherapy is considered to be able to help reduce and
even overcome comfort disorders such as anxiety, depression, pain. Aromatherapy
was given to three patients for 30 minutes. The results after the intervention of giving
lavender aromatherapy for two times according to the patient's Hemodialysis
schedule, namely the patient's anxiety level is reduced. The conclusion in this writing
is that lavender aromatherapy is effective in reducing the anxiety felt by patients
while undergoing hemodialysis.
