    Abstract
Calculating the need for nursing personnel or staffing is a basic management function in implementing nursing activities. Predicting the need for nursing staff accurately is an important management skill to minimize the occurrence of a staffing crisis in nursing. One important aspect of the staffing function is to determine the workload of a nurse. Nurse workload is a number of tasks that nurses must carry out in providing care to patients. The assessment was carried out by conducting interviews and observations using interview and observation guide media. Based on the results of the nurse workload analysis, it was found that the nurse workload was based on the number of patients using the nurse-patient ratio. It was found that the nurse workload on the afternoon and evening shifts was greater because the ratio between nurses and patients was high, where the ratio on the afternoon and evening shifts was 1: 11. Then the workload based on the patient's level of dependency showed that the average hours of direct care for patients in the room was 4.22 hours per patient. With the increasing frequency and duration of patient hospitalization, the burden of nursing care will also increase. Then the average length of stay for patients based on the results of interviews with the head of the room stated that the average number of days a patient stays in that room is 4-6 days. For this reason, it is hoped that the role of the nurse manager will optimize the staff function to determine the workload of nurses in order to provide high quality nursing care.
