dc.description.abstract | Background: The processing of library materials is an activity carried out in the
library to arrange, manage, and organize collections of library materials so they
can be easily accessed and utilized by users.
Objective: The aim of this final project was to identify the processing activities of
library materials, specifically books, at the Library and Archives Office of Medan
City.
Method: The data collection methods used in writing this final project included
observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review.
Results: The results of this final project showed that the processing activities of
library materials at the Library and Archives Office of Medan City consisted of
several stages: (1) Inventory, which included checking, stamping, and assigning
an accession number to the logbook; (2) Cataloging, which included bibliographic
description using ISBD (International Standard Bibliographic Description)
guidelines, assigning subject headings, and determining the main entry based on
AACR2 (Anglo American Cataloguing Rules 2); (3) Classification, which
included content analysis of library materials, determining the classification
number, and recording the classification number based on e-DDC (electronic
Dewey Decimal Classification); (4) Physical preparation of books, which included
labeling, attaching a return slip, attaching a caution slip, and covering the books;
and (5) Shelving books according to the classification number order.
Conclusion: The processing activities of library materials at the Library and
Archives Office of Medan City have been well conducted, but some challenges
remain, such as shelving activities, where books are not yet arranged according to
the classification number order, and the processing workspace is still too small. | en_US |
